Podcast Introduction
Today is Psalms Wednesday. We’ll read chapters 105-107. Plus, we’ll continue our Essentials series, and we’ll have a time of Praise reports and Prayer Requests. I’m calling this episode “God’s Enduring Love.”

Summary
Give thanks to the Lord, acknowledging His goodness and enduring loyal love. Psalm 107 emphasizes this message by repeating the refrain four times: “Let them give thanks to the Lord for his loyal love, and for the amazing things he has done for people!”
Throughout this psalm, we are assured that God’s loyal love never falters. It remains steadfast and unwavering. God is the embodiment of love itself, and His love is always present, guiding and caring for His people.

Our Heavenly Father, we love you, And we thank you for our time together. We thank you for the Psalms. And we thank You, Lord, for telling us the things that we must believe in order to be saved. Though not attributed to David, the first 15 chapters of Psalm 105 are the same as First Chronicles 16, a through 22, where David gave him de Saphan his relatives to sing so it’s quite possible that David wrote them quite probable that he wrote them. of Psalm 105. G. Campbell Morgan wrote, This And the following Psalm are companions, they reveal the two sides of the relation between God And His people during a long period. This one sings the song of his faithfulness And power, while the next tells the sad story of repeated failure And rebellion on the part of his people.

Psalms chapter 105. Praise the Lord And pray in His name. Tell everyone what he has done. Sing praises to the Lord, tell about his miracles, celebrate in worship His holy name with all your heart, trust the Lord And His mighty power, remember His miracles And all his wonders in his fair decisions. You belong to the family of Abraham, his servant, you are his chosen ones, the descendants of Jacob, the Lord is our God bringing justice everywhere on earth, He will never forget his agreement or his promises. Not in 1000s of years, God made an eternal promise to Abraham, Isaac And Jacob when he said, I’ll give you the land of Canaan. At the time, there were only a few of us And we were homeless. We wandered from nation to nation from one country to another. God did not let anyone mistreat our people. Instead, he protected us by punishing rulers And telling them Don’t touch my chosen leaders or harm My prophets. God kept crops from growing until food was scarce everywhere in the land. But he had already sent Joseph sold as a slave into Egypt, with chains of iron around his legs And neck. Joseph remained a slave until his own words had come true. And the Lord had finished testing him. Then the king of Egypt set Joseph free And put him in charge of everything he owned. Joseph was in command of the officials And he taught the leaders how to use wisdom. Jacob And his family came And settled in Egypt as foreigners. They were the Lord’s people, so he let them grow stronger than their enemies. They served the Lord And He made the Egyptians plan hateful things against them. God sent his servant Moses. He also chose And said Aaron to his people in Egypt, And they worked miracles And wonders there. Moses And Aaron obeyed God And he sent darkness to cover Egypt. God turned their rivers into streams of blood, And the fish all died. frogs were everywhere, even in the royal palace. When God gave the command, flies in nets swarmed all around. In place of rain, God sent hailstones And flashes of lightning. He destroyed their grape vines And their fig trees And he made splinters of all the other trees. God gave the command And more grasshoppers came than could be counted. They ate every green plant And all the crops that grew in the land of Egypt. Then God took the life of every firstborn son. When God led Israel from Egypt, they took silver And gold And no one was left behind. The Egyptians were afraid And gladly let them go. God hid them under a cloud And guided them by fire during the night. When they asked for food, he sent more birds than they could eat. God even split open a rock And streams of water gushed into the desert. God never forgot his sacred promise to His servant Abraham. When the Lord rescued his chosen people from Egypt, they celebrated with songs. The Lord gave them the land And everything else the nations had worked for. He did this so that his people would obey all his laws. Shout praises to the Lord

of Psalm 106 Derek Kidner wrote, this psalm is the dark counterpart of its predecessor, a shadow cast by humans self will in its long struggle against the light. And this is what Charles Spurgeon had to say. Israel’s history is here written with a view of showing human sin, even as the preceding Psalm was composed to magnify divine goodness. It is, in fact, a national confession. And Alexandre McClaren added the keynote of Psalm 105 is remember his mighty deeds, that of Psalm 106 He is, they forgot his mighty deeds.
Steve Webb 5:32
Psalm chapter 106. Praise the Lord. Give Thanks to the Lord for He is good. It is loyal love endures. Who can adequately recount the Lord’s mighty acts or relate all his praiseworthy deeds? How blessed are those who promote justice And do what is right all the time. Remember me, oh Lord, when you show favor to your people. Pay attention to me when you deliver so I may save the prosperity of your chosen ones. Rejoice along with your nation, And boast along with the people who belong to you. We have sinned like our ancestors we have done wrong. We have done evil. Our ancestors in Egypt failed to appreciate your miraculous deeds. They failed to remember your many acts of loyal love, And they rebelled at the sea by the Red Sea. Yet he delivered them for the sake of his reputation that he might reveal His power. He shouted at the Red Sea And dried it up. He led them through the deep water as if it were a desert. He delivered them from the power of the one who hated them And rescued them from the power of the enemy. The water covered their enemies, not even one of them survived. They believed his promises. They sang praises to Him. They quickly forgot what he had done. They did not wait for his instructions. In the wilderness. They had an insatiable craving for meat. They challenged God in the desert. He granted their request then struck them with a disease. In the camp they resented Moses And Aaron the Lord’s holy priest. The earth opened up And swallowed Nathan. It engulfed the group led by a Byram fire burned their group. The flames scorched the wicked. They made an image of a calf at vorab And worshipped a metal idol. They traded their majestic God for the image of an ox that eats grass. They rejected the God who delivered them. The one who performed great deeds in Egypt, amazing feats in the land of Han, mighty acts by the Red Sea. He threatened to destroy them, but Moses His Chosen One interceded with him And turned back his destructive anger. They rejected the fruitful land, they did not believe his promise. they grumbled in their tents, they did not obey the Lord. So he made a solemn vow that he would make them die in the desert, make their descendants die among the nations And scattered them among foreign lands. They worshiped Baal of Peor And ate sacrifices offered to the dead. They made the Lord angry by their actions, And a plague broke out among them. Phineas took a stand And intervened in the plagues subsided. This brought him a reward, an eternal gift. They made him angry by the waters of Meribah And Moses suffered because of them, for they aroused his temper And he spoke rashly. They did not destroy the nations as the Lord had commanded them to do. They mixed in with the nations And learned their ways. They worshipped their idols which became a snare to them. They sacrificed their sons And daughters to demons. They shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons And daughters whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan. The land was polluted by bloodshed. They were defiled by their deeds And unfaithful in their actions. So the Lord was angry with his people And despise the people who belong to him. He handed them over to the nations And those who hated them ruled over them. Their enemies oppressed them, they were subject to their authority. Many times he delivered them, but they had a rebellious attitude And degraded themselves by their sin. He took notice of their distress when he heard their cry for help. He remembered his covenant with them, And relented because of his great loyal love. He caused all their conquerors to have pity on them. Deliver us, oh Lord, our God, gather us from among the nations. Then we will give Thanks to your holy name, And boast about your praiseworthy deeds. The Lord God of Israel deserves praise in the future And forevermore. Let all the people say we agree, praise the Lord.
Steve Webb 9:51
Psalm 107 begins the last of the five books of the Psalms. Though it does not have a title given in the text. Derek Kidner called it the God to the rescue. In this song God’s deliverance is shown in four vignettes And were shown that even though we all have different events in our lives, there are remarkable similarities in that God’s love takes us through the most difficult circumstances.
Steve Webb 10:17
Psalms 107. Give Thanks to the Lord for He is good And his loyal love endures. Let those delivered by the Lord speak out, those whom he delivered from the power of the enemy And gathered from foreign lands from east And west from north And south. They wandered through the wilderness on a desert road, they found no city in which to live. They were hungry And thirsty, they fainted from exhaustion, they cried out to the Lord in their distress, he delivered them from their troubles, he led them on a level road that they might find a city in which to live. Let them give Thanks to the Lord for his loyal love And for the amazing things he has done for people. For he has satisfied those who thirst And those who hunger he has filled with food. They sat in utter darkness bound in painful iron chains because they had rebelled against God’s commands, And rejected the instructions of the Sovereign King. So he used suffering to humble them. They stumbled And no one helped them up. They cried out to the Lord in their distress, he delivered them from their troubles. He brought them out of the utter darkness And tore off their shackles. Let them give Thanks to the Lord for his loyal love And for the amazing things he has done for people. For he shattered the bronze gates And hacked through the iron bars. They acted like fools in their rebellious ways And suffered because of their sins. They lost their appetite for all food, And they drew near the gates of death. They cried out to the Lord in their distress. He delivered them from their troubles, he sent them And assuring word And healed them. He rescued them from the pits where they were trapped. Let them give Thanks to the Lord for his loyal love for the amazing things he has done for people. Let them present thank offerings And loudly proclaim what he has done. Some traveled on the sea And ships And carried cargo over the vast waters. They witnessed the acts of the Lord his amazing feats on the deep water. He gave the order for a wind storm And it stirred up the waves of the sea. They reached up to the sky then dropped into the depths. The sailors strength left them because the danger was so great. They swayed And staggered like a drunk And all their skill proved ineffective. They cried out to the Lord in their distress, he delivered them from their troubles, he calmed to the storm And the waves grew silent. The sailors rejoiced because the waves grew quiet And he led them to the harbor they desired. Let them give Thanks to the Lord for his loyal love And for the amazing things he has done for people. Let them exalt Him in the assembly of the people. Let them praise him in the place where the leaders preside. He turned streams into a Desert Springs of water into arid land, And a fruitful land into a barren place because of the sin of its inhabitants. As for his people, he turned a desert into a pool of water And a dry land into springs of water. He allowed the hungry to settle there, And they established a city in which to live. They cultivated fields And planted vineyards which yielded a harvest of fruit. He blessed them so that they became very numerous, he would not allow their cattle to decrease in number. As for their enemies, they decreased in number And were beaten down because of painful distress And suffering. He would pour contempt upon princes And made them wander in a wasteland with no road. Yet he protected the needy from oppression And cared for his families like a flock of sheep. When the godly see this, they rejoice, And every sinner shuts his mouth. Whoever is wise, let him take note of these things. Let them consider the Lord’s acts of loyal love.
Steve Webb 14:15
Chapter 106 opens with a call to praise the Lord And to give Thanks because he is good, And his loyal love endures. In fact, the first five verses are a joy to read. We find ourselves saying Yes, amen. Along with the author. And then at verse seven things take a darker tone. The author confesses that we have sinned like our ancestors. There is talk of sin And judgment, betrayal And anger, deliverance And forgetfulness. And then in the second to the last verse, the writer pleads for God to deliver us. He promises to give Thanks And tell of God’s marvelous deeds. And the last verse proclaims that the Lord God of Israel deserves praise forever And ever urges everyone to say, we agree praise the Lord. What I make of this is that even in the midst of judgment And pain, God is worthy of praise. Why? Because as it says in the very first verse, he is loyal. love endures forever. Judgment And anger don’t come because God no longer loves us. On the contrary, if God didn’t love us, he would be indifferent to us, he would turn us over to our own wicked ways, which we know from Scripture that he does do to those who have hardened their hearts to Him. But if we seek Him, if we turn from our rebellion, His love for us is shown by forgiveness And redemption. As a matter of fact, didn’t God already proved that over 2000 years ago with a death And resurrection of Jesus, we have only to accept that fact And believe that He died for our sins, And then allow Him to guide our actions And our decisions to experience that loyal And enduring love. I’m so glad I don’t have to depend on my own effort or my own faithfulness. I fail more often than I care to admit. But he sees it all, And he offers forgiveness. The Lord God of Israel deserves praise in the future And forevermore. Say with me, we agree, praise the Lord. And in Psalm 107, there are several calls to give Thanks to the Lord, for He is good, And his loyal love endures. We hear this refrain four times, let them give Thanks to the Lord for his loyal love, And for the amazing things he has done for people. The psalm ends with this, let them consider the Lord’s acts of loyal love. Have you ever been delivered from an enemy? Give Thanks to the Lord for his loyal love, And for the amazing things he has done for you. Have you been delivered from hunger or from thirst? Give Thanks to the Lord for his loyal love And for the amazing things he has done for you. Have you been a prisoner or a captive? God was And is there to bring freedom. Give Thanks to the Lord And for his loyal love And for the amazing things he has done for you. Have you been sick? God is the creator of our bodies. He is the master physician. Give Thanks to the Lord for his loyal love And for the amazing things he has done for you. Have you experienced a raging storm And known the calm brought by the word of God? Give Thanks to the Lord for his loyal love And for the amazing things he has done for you. Have you experienced loss but seen God miraculously provide Give Thanks to the Lord for his loyal love And for the amazing things he has done for you. God’s loyal love. It never fails. It never wavers. God is love. Now, what are your thoughts? You have a question? We have a comment contact information is that the end of the show today, tomorrow will be poetry Thursday, we’ll read Proverbs 22.

This is number 14 In our series on the essentials of the faith. Going over the Essentials is a bit like reviewing And practicing the fundamentals in sports. Do you know Kobe Bryant he was considered by some to be the greatest basketball player ever. Author, coach And speaker Allen Stein Jr. had heard that Cobis workouts were amazing. And he asked if he could watch one of them. Listen to what he said about the experience. The first time I had a chance to watch Kobe Bryant workout was in 2007 when he was without question, the best player on the planet. And I got to watch an early morning private workout. You know what astounded me from that workout? Was not the flash And the sizzle. What was how basic the workout was, for the first 40 minutes. Kobe did nothing but very basic footwork And pivoting drills. To be honest, I was bored. I couldn’t believe it. Here I am watching the best player in the world doing the most basic drills possible. After the workout, which was about two hours long. I asked him I said Kobe, you’re the best player in the world. Why are you doing the most basic drills? And he just kind of chuckled, looked me in the eye And said, Why do you think I’m the best player in the world? The best never get bored with the basics. So this is one of the reasons I’m doing this essential series. It’s important to know the basics. Each of us is called to be like Jesus were His ambassadors. And to do that we need to have a firm grasp of the basics And to know what we believe And why we believe it. Today we’re going to begin looking at the fact that the salvation of man is completely a work of God’s free grace And it is not the work in whole or in part of human works or goodness or religious ceremony. God credits his righteousness to those who put their faith in Christ alone for their salvation, And thereby justifies them in his sight? well, there’s a lot of rich meaning there. So this one is going to take more than just one visit. But let’s begin to break it down. The salvation of man is completely a work of God’s free grace, And is not the work in whole or in part of human works or goodness, or religious ceremony. Or to put it another way, we could pose it as a question. Are we saved by faith alone? Or do we also have to do anything else? Do we have to be baptized to be saved? Do we need to go to confession? Do we need to take communion? Do we need to tithe? Do we have to do some sort of work to be saved? Or is it enough just to put our faith in what Jesus did when he was crucified And then resurrected on the third day? This is an extremely important thing to get right? Beloved, the answer is what separates Biblical Christianity And most, if not all, cults And false religions. So the Bible teaches us that salvation comes through faith alone, not faith, plus any kind of work. Let’s look at some scriptures from the Bible. Ephesians, two, eight, And nine says, For by grace, you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing it is the gift of God, not a result of works so that no one may boast. well, let’s stop here for a minute. It started there by saying For by grace, you have been saved? well, what is grace? I’ve heard it explained like this. Grace is receiving something that I do not deserve And not receiving that which I do deserve. I’ve also heard it put this way. Grace is God’s favor toward the unworthy or God’s benevolence on the undeserving. Another thing about grace is, it’s a gift. well, by definition, a gift is free to the recipient, but it does cost the giver. Our salvation cost us nothing. But Jesus paid an enormous price. Also, a gift is not alone. It doesn’t have to be repaid, there is no installment plan on a gift. And once received, the gift belongs to the recipient. It is theirs to keep they own it. Here are some other verses that support the teaching that salvation is by faith alone. Acts 1631 says, And they said, Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ And you will be saved. Romans 328 for we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law, Romans four, five, And two, the one who does not work but believes in Him who justifies the ungodly, is faith is counted as righteousness. Romans five one, therefore since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Galatians 216 Yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law, but through faith in Jesus Christ. So we also have believed in Christ Jesus in order to be justified by faith in Christ, And not by works of the law, because by works of the law, no one will be justified in Galatians 324 says, So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came in order that we might be justified by faith Ephesians 113. In Him, you also when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation And believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. So it seems pretty clear, doesn’t it? But there are those who look at other scriptures that at first blush seemed to say something else. James 224 says, you see that a person is justified by works And not by faith alone. well, oh, wait a minute, what’s going on here? well, remember, in studying scripture, it is important to look at the context, what’s going on before And after a particular verse. well, here in James he is refuting the idea that a person can have saving faith without producing any good works. We just read verse 24. Now let’s listen to verses 14 through 18. What good is it my brothers, if someone says he has faith, but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed And lacking in daily food And one of you says to them, Go in peace be warmed And filled without giving him the things needed for the body? What good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works is dead, but someone will say you have faith And I have works. Show me your faith apart from your works, And I will show you my faith by my works. what James is saying here is that if we have true faith in Jesus, an outgrowth of that faith is a changed life with different priorities. We don’t change our behavior to earn from God, our behavior changes because God changed us. Our works are the evidence of God’s work in us. In Titus 214, Paul says that believers will be eager to do what is good. And in Ephesians 210, he said, For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works. So to summarize, we learned today that salvation comes by God’s grace through faith, And that faith is shown in good works, works follow faith, they prove the reality of it. It’s not faith plus works that saves us it’s faith alone. But the works show that the faith we put in Christ began a process of him changing us. So next week, we’ll tackle the second part of today’s subject. And that second part is, God credits his righteousness to those who put their faith in Christ alone for their salvation in their fight justifies them in his sight. I welcome your comments And your questions. Contact information is coming up in just a few moments.

prayer requests And praises Chase Jacobson sent this in Good morning, Steve, I was hoping to add a couple of things to your prayer list. We’ve had a hard And stressful Spring this year in Northwest North Dakota, from a friend getting hit in a sprayer by a semi And by God’s hand, not a scratch, to a neighbor passing away while seeding a different neighbor having an anhydrous tank explode, another neighbor friends having severe marital problems, And more I’m sure I don’t know of springs work is almost done. But some prayers would be much appreciated. Thank you. Oh, my goodness Chase, there have been a lot of challenges up there. From your note, it sounds like you And your friends are farmers. So let me first say God bless you And your friends for the work you do. Farmers are so important. And I do salute you, thank you. And praise the Lord for God’s protecting your friend in this sprayer when the semi hit him. I’m sure that’s a story in itself. Maybe you can pass that along to me sometime. And my heart does go out to the other ones. You’ve mentioned Chase And their families, God sees them And he loves each one of them. We’ll pray about that today. And I’m scheduled to have a phone conversation today with a doctor who will be doing my cataract surgery on the 20th of this month. I suppose we’ll talk about whether to do one eye or both on that day, And if only one which one to start with. Also, I expect we’ll talk about what to expect during the surgery And recovery time And whatnot. My eyes have never been great. And I was very nearsighted until I had LASIK surgery about 20 years ago And my left eye has never really been very good at all, even with glasses. And that’s also the eye the left eye that the retina had some tears happen in it several years ago, I lost the bottom third or so of my my vision in that eye. It’s just completely gone. I don’t start seeing things until just a little bit lower than halfway down my vision area. So that’s not a good idea to begin with. Because all that to say I don’t really know exactly what to expect with the cataract surgery except that, of course will replace the lenses of my eyes that it began to get cloudy. I’ll get new clear lenses. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to throw away the reading glasses or not. Maybe the phone call today will give me some clarity on that. But so that’s it for now. Let’s let’s pray for our loving Heavenly Father, we are so thankful that your loyal love does endure forever. No matter what’s going on in our lives. Whether difficult or joyful. You’re loyal love endures forever. How good you are to us, Father, thank you. You love us far more than we deserve. But you’re loyal love endures forever. Thank you, Lord, we praise You And we worship you. And now Father, we lift up chases friends who have had such hardship over the past few months. And we thank you for protecting the one who sprayer was hit by the truck. But for the ones who’ve had tragedy strike, we asked you to minister to them, Lord, be with them And their families, comfort And provide for them, Lord, draw them close to you be their supply their comfort or their healer, be glorified in these events. Lord, we pray for the families who are struggling in their marriages. Each one has their own issues, I’m sure But Lord, you know them all. I pray that you would soften hearts And attitudes give them a real desire to work through whatever problems they have helped them Lord to put you at the center as you You can heal our bodies, you can heal marriages And make them stronger than before. We ask your Holy Spirit to be in their midst remind them of why they fell in love in the first place, And may they renew their commitments to one another. And Father in regards to my upcoming cataract surgery, I’m so glad that I’m in your hands, I trust you And I just pray that your will would be done. I’m looking forward to having perfect vision when I get to see you face to face, Lord. But until that time, I’m just thankful to have any vision at all. Truly. I do pray that the surgery will go well without complications, of course, but I am yours And I put my trust in you. And Father, I thank you so much for the Lifespring family that you have brought each person here And I’m so Happy And privileged to be able to share time around your word with them. Bless each one I pray And may each one of us be encouraged by the Psalms we’ve read today. May our walk with you grow closer every day, Lord, we pray these things in Jesus name. Amen. Our next time of prayer together here on the show will be Sunday. The if there’s a praise we should know about or if there’s something that you’d like us to pray with you about contact information is coming up in just a moment.
