The Cornerstone You Can Trust
Today’s reading is Isaiah 23–28. These chapters move from God’s judgment on the nations to His promise of a future kingdom filled with justice, peace, and joy. Much of the language is heavy, reflecting the consequences of rebellion and the weight of human pride. Yet woven through it all is a theme that steadies the heart — God is building something unshakable, and He invites us to stand on it with confidence.
Commentary
In this episode I share brief thoughts on each chapter from a 30,000-foot view. Isaiah 23 completes the section of judgments on the nations. Chapters 24–27 zoom out to describe the final days, the Great Tribulation, and the joy of those who turn to the Lord even in desperate times. These chapters also look forward to the day when Jesus will rule as King, bringing righteousness to the whole earth.
Isaiah 28 contains warnings for Israel and Judah, but it also includes one of the clearest promises in Scripture. God says He is laying a firm foundation in Zion — a cornerstone that will never fail anyone who trusts in it. That stone is Jesus Christ. No matter what judgment, chaos, or confusion surrounds us, we can build our lives on Him with confidence.
On This Date in Church History
Today we look at three events: the signing of the Mayflower Compact in 1620, the publication of Henry Martyn’s memoirs in 1835, and the birth of missionary Jeanette Norwood in 1899. Each story highlights courage, perseverance, and a willingness to follow God no matter the cost.
