The Shape of a Changed Life

Today is Psalms Wednesday, and we’re spending time with Psalms 15 through 17. These passages give us a close look at what a changed life actually looks like. Not just words. Not just claims. A life that reflects trust in God, obedience to His ways, and a heart that wants His presence more than anything else. David’s short list in Psalm 15 is powerful because it challenges us to take inventory. Are our lives showing the reality of our faith? Or are we just saying the right things without the transformation?

Psalm 16 reminds us that God Himself is our inheritance, our security, and our source of joy. The world offers a lot of noise and distractions, but this psalm pulls us back to the center. And Psalm 17 reveals a heart that seeks God’s protection with confidence. David knows that God sees everything, and he trusts that God will hear and respond.

Later in the episode, we also talk a bit about something close to the heart of many listeners—Thanksgiving preparations. The lovely lady LeeAnn and I are deep into turkey brining, deviled egg assembling, and a whole lot of kitchen activity. And as always, we check in with the Lifespring Family Hotline and our On This Date in Church History segment, which today includes Spurgeon, the AME Church’s Christian Recorder, and the Gideons.

📝 Commentary

Psalm 15 opens with two simple but profound questions: Who may enter the Lord’s presence? Who may dwell with Him? David answers by describing a person whose life reflects truth, integrity, and faithfulness. We’re reminded that obedience doesn’t earn us access to God under the New Covenant, but it reveals whether our faith is real. As I mentioned in the episode, 1 John 1 tells us plainly that if we say we belong to God but we walk in darkness, we’re lying to ourselves. A changed heart leads to a changed life, and Psalm 15 gives us a picture of that life.

🦃 Thanksgiving Plans

Here in the U.S., we’re getting ready for Thanksgiving. The lovely lady LeeAnn and I are preparing two brined turkeys, dressing for about twenty people, deviled eggs, and a corn soufflé for her mother’s family gathering. Her mom is ninety-three and still living independently, and she insists on hosting. It’s a busy season, but a joyful one. Wherever you are, I hope your day is filled with gratitude and peace.
