Tempted, Not Trapped

Today’s Reading

Today’s reading is 1 Corinthians 9–10.

Verse of the Day

1 Corinthians 10:13 — “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability. But with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

What This Episode Is About

In chapter 9, Paul explains that those who are served by gospel ministry should support that work. He gives everyday illustrations and points to the command of the Lord Himself, yet he also shows humility by choosing not to insist on that right in Corinth. Paul’s example invites us to think carefully about partnership, generosity, and responsibility within the body of Christ.

Chapter 10 confronts something every believer wrestles with: rationalization. We are remarkably skilled at justifying behavior we already want to pursue. Paul reminds us that excuses do not remove accountability, and temptation is never a surprise to God.

1 Corinthians 10:13 stands as both warning and comfort. Our temptations are not unique, and they are never irresistible. God knows our weakness, yet He promises faithfulness. He always provides a way out. The challenge for us is whether we will recognize it and take it.

Why This Matters

We live in a world that constantly offers reasons to excuse sin, but God’s Word offers something better. Temptation may be real, but it is never final. God is faithful, escape is promised, and obedience leads to freedom. In Christ, you may be tempted, but you are never trapped.
