Day 14 – Shepherds and Angels: Good News for Everyone
Today we open Door 14 and step into one of the most beloved scenes of the Nativity story: shepherds in the fields, an angelic announcement, and a choir of heaven praising God. In Luke 2, the first public announcement of Jesus’ birth is not delivered to the powerful or the famous, but to everyday people doing night-shift work outdoors. That detail is not random. It is a signal. The good news is for everyone.
James walks us through the Scripture, highlights what shepherds were like in that culture, and explains why this moment matters. The angel begins with the words “Do not be afraid,” a familiar message God also spoke to Mary. Then comes the headline of Christmas: good news of great joy, and it is not restricted to a select few. The shepherds go, they see, and they return changed, glorifying and praising God. And they tell others what they’ve heard and seen.
