It’s like tryin’ to tell a stranger about rock’n’roll.

A conversation I was involved with last week got me thinking. Do you have to believe in God in order to love? Listen to the podcast for my answers.

Scriptures used:

Romans 5:6?8 (NIV)
6You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Songs:

Anne Davis “Awakening”
This lady really has a great heart and a fantastic ability to write meaningful lyrics.

Bob Bennett “The Best”
Bob is a friend of mine, and I’ve been a fan since the late ’70s. This song is from his debut album, which is out of print. I’m blessed to have my original vinyl copy.

Verse of the day: Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

You don’t really believe that stuff, do you?

Verse of the Day: Matt. 28:6 (NIV) ” He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.”

Back from last week’s illness! It’s good to have that behind me!

Today’s show is about the resurrection of Christ, and how the most reasonable conclusion is that it really happened!

Music: Keith Green’s “Easter Song” and “The Victor”

Also played the “Godcaster’s Music Trivia Test” that I produced for Adam Curry.

Scriptures:

Matt. 28:1 through Matt. 28:16 (NIV)
1 After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

2 There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. 4 The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

5 The angel said to the women, ?Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ?He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee . There you will see him.? Now I have told you.?

8 So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them. ?Greetings,? he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, ?Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee ; there they will see me.?

11 While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, 13 telling them, ?You are to say, ?His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.? 14 If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.? 15 So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day.

16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee , to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.

1 Cor. 15:17 (NIV)
17And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.

1 Cor. 15:6 through 1 Cor. 15:8 (NIV)
6After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. 7Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, 8and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

A sick host and a shorter podcast.

Sorry about the bad voice! I’ve been fighting this “creeping crud” since just after last week’s podcast. I had to cut the show short because I almost couldn’t talk any more after less than a half hour.

Announced the winner of last week’s Susan Gray CD giveaway: Wilker Altidor.

Talked about the importance of a name. We don’t put faith in someone who’s character we do not know. God’s character is revealed in His many names. We mentioned many of the names of God. There’s a great website that lists lots of those names.

Verses:

Matthew 7:14 (NIV)
Jesus said, 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Verse of the Day

Matthew 11:28 (NIV)
28 ?Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

One of my favorite artists, Anne Davis, has a new website. Check it out. Her lyrics and music are thoughtful and moving.

I talk about an example of how Jesus loves us, explaining some new perspectives on an account from the book of Mark…

Mark 8:22 through Mark 8:26 (NIV)
22They came to Bethsaida, and some people brought a blind man and begged Jesus to touch him. 23He took the blind man by the hand and led him outside the village. When he had spit on the man?s eyes and put his hands on him, Jesus asked, ?Do you see anything??
24He looked up and said, ?I see people; they look like trees walking around.?
25Once more Jesus put his hands on the man?s eyes. Then his eyes were opened, his sight was restored, and he saw everything clearly. 26Jesus sent him home, saying, ?Don?t go into the village.?

I also explain why I talk about Jesus when it’s not really the P.C. thing to do…

Acts 4:12 (NIV)
12Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.?

Lastly, Lifespring! is giving away a free copy of Susan Gray’s CD, “Live Here”. You’ll have to listen for details!

I talked about the Kindom of God. Here are the scriptures I used:

Matthew 25:31 through Matthew 25:34 (NIV)
31 ?When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34 ?Then the King will say to those on his right, ?Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.

Luke 21:31 (NIV)
31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.

Luke 22:17 through Luke 22:18 (NIV)
17 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said, ?Take this and divide it among you. 18 For I tell you I will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.?

Well, because of some technical difficulties, the podcast was uploaded late. Sorry about that.

I finally talked about the conversation with the fellow at the Orange County Podcaster’s MeetUp.

A listener, Dave, emailed me earlier this past week about how to “hear” God. I addressed that question and spoke about the NY Times characterization about me having a “vision” to do this podcast.

Lifespring! in the New York Times!

Exciting news! Lifespring! and Steve Webb were cited in the Saturday, February 19th edition of the New York Times! The story appeared on the front page of the national edition of the newspaper. While the reporter slightly mischaracterized the way in which I said I felt God’s calling to do the podcast, I feel that she did a fair job.

Listen to Monday’s podcast for more about the interview, and my comments on how I believe God “speaks” to us today…

Happy Valentine’s Day

DOWNLOAD THE PODCAST

A day early so that I can be home with Lovely Lady LeeAnn, my wife, this evening instead of recording!

1 Cor. 13:1 through 1 Cor. 13:13 (NIV)
1If I speak in the tongues? of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,? but have not love, I gain nothing.
4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Here it is!

The new Lifespring! show notes page is finally here!

It’s taken longer than I had hoped, but “better late than never”.

Eventually I’ll bring all the archives over here, but for now, you can go to the old show notes page for information on older shows.

As always, I’ll be putting up a new show on Monday. It’s going to be a good one. It is, after all, Valentine’s Day.

I had a very interesting conversation with a fellow at the Orange County Podcaster’s MeetUp earlier this week, and I’ll be sharing some of that conversation with you.

And of course there will be some great music, too!

Please get on over to PodcastAlley.com and vote. It won’t take much to get the show into the Top 10. Let’s make it happen, people!

The Hall of Fame man: Abraham is in the list found in Hebrews chapter eleven. I read from Romans:
Romans 4:18 ? 5:8 (NIV)
18Against all hope, Abraham in hope believed and so became the father of many nations, just as it had been said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” 19Without weakening in his faith, he faced the fact that his body was as good as dead?since he was about a hundred years old?and that Sarah?s womb was also dead. 20Yet he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God, 21being fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised. 22This is why “it was credited to him as righteousness.” 23The words “it was credited to him” were written not for him alone, 24but also for us, to whom God will credit righteousness?for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead. 25He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
Chapter 5
1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. 3Not only so, but we? also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.6You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. 7Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly dare to die. 8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

All of these songs really touched me this week. Listen to them closely. Fantastic lyrics!

Though I don’t really like talking about myself, I did just that on this podcast. It occurred to me that you might want to know about this guy behind the microphone. I talk to you about some lifechanging info, and it might be helpful to know what makes me “tick”.

Shared my favorite scripture passage with you:

Romans 8:38-39 (NIV)
38For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Next week I’ll talk about a man who made it to the Hall of Fame, and I’ll have some great news about this website!

Scriptures:
Matthew 7:7-11 (KJV)
7Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 9Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? 10Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
John 14:6 (KJV)
6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
