Chapter 50 dealt with prophecies against Babylon, the return of God’s people to the promised land, and the invasion, humiliation, desolation and conquest of Babylon. In chapter 51 we heard God’s judgment on Babylon, and this message was the end of Jeremiah’s prophetic words. Chapter 52 brought us the words of someone else. Scholars seem to agree that it was probably Ezra. The message itself is one of the fall of Jerusalem.

With the completion of the reading of Jeremiah, we are more than halfway through the major prophets. There are three books left. Lamentations, the next book, is quite short, just 5 chapters. Ezekiel is 48 chapters and Daniel is just 12. After the major prophets come the minor prophets. There are twelve books there, and all of them are quite short.

Jeremiah had 52 chapters. There are just 66 chapters left (if I counted right) in the Old Testament. There are 65 chapters left for us to read in the New Testament. So, we are on schedule to complete the reading of the Bible somewhere near the end of November, first part of December.
