LSFAB0007: Matthew 1-2 (repost)
You’ve probably heard the Christmas story a thousand times. I know I have. So it’s pretty cool to read it again and see something that I’ve never noticed before.
At the end of chapter one, after the angel tells Joseph not to be afraid to marry Mary, it says, “When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord commanded him to do.”
In chapter two, when the angel of the Lord told him to get out of Bethlehem and go to Egypt, it says, “Joseph got up, took the child and his mother, and left for Egypt that night.”
See the difference? The first time, Joseph kept sleeping until the morning. There wasn’t such a big rush.
But the second time, Herod’s soldiers were coming to kill the baby, so it was important to get moving immediately. And Joseph got moving right away.
Not a huge point, but one that I haven’t noticed before.
