Job is really suffering now. He has lost so much, and now even his body has turned against him. So much so that he wishes he had never been born. But notice, beloved, he does not speak against God, even though his own wife tells him he should, as we heard in chapter two last week.

And to make matters worse, his supposed friend, Eliphaz implies that Job brought this on himself. He says, “Think back now. Name a single case where someone righteous met with disaster.” In other words, if you hadn’t done something to deserve this calamity, you wouldn’t be in this spot. So Job has to suffer even the loss of his good name. With friends like this, who needs them?

Will Job survive? Will he, in the end curse God? There is much more to go, so stick with me.
