Thoughts

Beloved, if you are in God’s grasp, there is nothing…nothing that can separate you from the love of Jesus. If I sin, I still belong to him. My standing in Christ is not dependent on my behavior. If it were, then I would be earning his love. And we know that there is nothing that I can do to earn his love. Paul said that even my best works were like filthy rags to God. So if on my best day, my works are as filthy rags, does that mean that on my worst day my works are like filthier rags, so God will reject me? Of course not.

I don’t say this to say just go ahead and sin. I say this so that you don’t walk around in fear that you’re going to do something to anger God to the point He disowns you. He bought you with a price, and he isn’t going to return you for a refund. Paul said in Philippians 1:6, “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.”

One last thought. When Jesus hung on the cross, what happened? The sins of the world were placed on Him. All of my sins. All of your sins. All the sins of every person who had ever lived, and all the sins of everyone who ever would live. Yes, God the Father turned His face from Jesus at that time, but where is Jesus now? He is at the right hand of the Father. I think the work that Jesus did that day on the cross can cover whatever your sin was yesterday, is today, or will be tomorrow.

Again, this is not a license to sin. Heaven forbid. But live your life for God, being confident that when you do fall, He will be there to pick you up again.
