Thoughts
The events of chapter 22 are probably some of the best known in the Bible. God tested the faith of Abraham by asking him to sacrifice his one and only son, Isaac. Of course, this was a foreshadowing of the sacrifice God himself would carry out with His one and only son, Jesus, so that you and I could have a relationship with Him. But in Abraham’s case, it was just a test to see if Abraham truly trusted God. Obviously, God had no intension of allowing Abraham to carry through with the sacrifice, because child sacrifice is abhorrent to God. Lev 20:2-5, 1 Ki 11:4-11, Jer 32:35, Prov 6:17 and others.
My question for you, beloved, is this: What are you willing to sacrifice for God?
Yes, we are told in 1 Sam 15:22 that to obey is better than sacrifice, but God does delight in our sacrifices if they are given with a right heart.
Of course in today’s culture, we think first of financial sacrifices. But there is the sacrifice of our time, our talent or expertise, our comfort, and really whatever it is that you value.
If you sacrifice in these areas out a heart of love and devotion to God, then I believe it pleases Him.
So I ask again, what are you willing to sacrifice for God?
