Thoughts
I have to say that I like Zophar’s way with words in chapter 11. There were a couple of sentences of his that stood out to me:
“But an empty-headed person will gain understanding when a wild donkey is born tame.” And, “Then you will forget your misery and remember it like water that has flowed downstream.”
Of course, Zophar had it right when he talked about God’s power, but he, like Bildad, Job’s other friend that we heard from previously, believes that Job’s problems are because Job has sinned in some way. He says, “Confess your sin and God will forgive you.”
Of course he is right that God will forgive a believer’s confessed sin, but Job knows that he is righteous.
So in chapter 12, Job answers his friends again:
“You certainly are ⌊wise⌋ people, and when you die, wisdom will die.’
I detect some sarcasm there, don’t you? And that was Job just getting started. He made so many great sarcastic points in the first half of this chapter.
And then, he spends the second half telling his friends that wisdom is from God.
And he then delineates a host of attributes of God.
This is a beautiful chapter to read. But then again, I just really enjoy this entire book.
