Today we’ll begin the book of Deuteronomy chapter 1, and we’ll read John 8 and Psalm 47. And we’ll again be reading from the New Living Translation.

May God bless the reading of His Word.

What do you suppose Jesus was writing in the dirt with his finger when they brought the woman caught in adultery? And why do you suppose they only brought the woman? There had to be a man with her, right?

Tradition has it that Jesus was writing their sins in the dirt. Perhaps it was the names of those who had also committed adultery. Of course, we won’t know until we get to heaven, but thinking about it is an interesting exercise.

And the fact that they didn’t also bring the man, to me points out their hypocrisy. Maybe there was a legitimate reason, but again, we can’t know because we are not told.
