Lifespring! HymnStories 8 “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty”

The story behind the 1826 hymn “Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty”.

Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!

Lyrics: Reginald Heber
Music: John B. Dykes
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy, merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, bless?d Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Who was, and is, and evermore shall be.

Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see;
Only Thou art holy; there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy Name, in earth, and sky, and sea;
Holy, holy, holy; merciful and mighty!
God in three Persons, bless?d Trinity!

    Thanks Steve,

    This was really encouraging to me. I’m 38, planning to go to the field in Summer of 08. I’ll be 40 then and I’ve been wondering if I’m too old to make such a radical change. It’s good to hear that other’s have gone before me.

    God bless,

    Brad

    Hi Brad,

    Seems to me Abram was even older when God called him to make a radical change in his life, too. 😉
