Podcast Introduction
This is Prophecy Friday, and we’ll read Jeremiah 27-31. The title is this episode is “Hope“.

Comments on Jeremiah 29
In chapter 29, God told Jeremiah to send a letter to those people who had been taken into captivity by Nebuchadnezzar into Babylon. In essence, God told the people to settle in because they were going to be there for a while. Seventy years to be exact. He told them to go ahead and build homes, plant gardens, have families. And pray that their new hometown would do well, because they will do well when it does.
This was a letter of reassurance. God did not want his people to be discouraged or without hope. They were in a sort of time out because of their sins, but He was not abandoning them. In verse 11 he said, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.“
There are some who say that this verse only applied to those people at the time God gave this message to Jeremiah. They say it does not apply to us today. I could not disagree more. This message applies to all who put their faith in God through Jesus Christ. How do I know this? Listen to the words Jesus spoke in John 14:1-3: “Don’t be worried! Have faith in God and have faith in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house. I wouldn’t tell you this, unless it was true. I am going there to prepare a place for each of you. After I have done this, I will come back and take you with me. Then we will be together.”
What a beautiful promise! I’m looking forward to that day, but until that day arrives, I’m settled in here for the long haul.

Jeremiah, chapter 27. In the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the Lord. Thus the Lord said to me, make yourselves straps and yoke bars and put them on your neck, said word to the king of Edom, the king of Moab, the king of the sons of Ammon, the king of Tyre and the king of Sidon, by the hand of the envoys who have come to Jerusalem to Zedekiah king of Judah, give them this charge for their masters, Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, this is what you shall say to your masters. It is I who, by my great power and my outstretched arm have made the earth with a man and animals that are on the earth, and I give it to whomever it seems right to me. Now I have given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, My servant, and I have given him also the beasts of the field to serve Him. All the nation shall serve him and his son that his grandson, until the time of his own land comes, then many nations and great kings shall make him their slave. But if any nation or kingdom will not serve this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and put its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, I will punish that nation with the sword with famine and with pestilence declares the Lord until I have consumed it by his hand. So do not listen to your prophets, your diviners, your dreamers, your fortune tellers, or your sorcerers who are saying to you, you shall not serve the king of Babylon, for it is a lie that they are prophesying to you with the result that you will be removed far from your land, and I will drive you out and you shall perish. But any nation that will bring its neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, I will leave on its own land to work it in dwell there declares the Lord. Does that a kya king of Judah I spoke in like manner, bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve Him and His people in live? Why will you and your people die by the sword, by famine and by pestilence as the Lord has spoken concerning any nation that will not serve the king of Babylon. Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are saying to you, you shall not serve the king of Babylon, for it is a lie that they are prophesying to you. I have not sent them declares the Lord, but they are prophesying falsely in my name, with the result that I will drive you out and you will perish you and the prophets who are prophesying to you. Then I spoke to the precentral all this people saying, Thus says the Lord, do not listen to the words of your prophets who are prophesying to you saying, Behold, the vessels of the Lord’s house will now shortly be brought back from Babylon. Four, it is alive, that they are prophesying to you. Do not listen to them, serve the king of Babylon and live. Why should this city become a desolation, if there are prophets and if the word of the Lord is with them, than let them intercede with the Lord of hosts, that the vessels that are left in the house of the Lord, in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem may not go to Babylon? For thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the pillars, the sea, the stands and the rest of the vessels that are left in this city, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take away when he took into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon Jeconiah, the son of Jehovah can king of Judah, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem, Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that are left in the house of the Lord, in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem, they shall be carried to Babylon, and remain there until the day when I visit them, declares the Lord, then I will bring them back and restore them to this place.
Steve Webb 4:26
Jeremiah chapter 28. In that same year, at the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah, king of Judah in the fifth month of the fourth year, Hannah and I have the son of Azur, the prophet from Debian spoke to me in the house of the Lord in the presence of the priests and all the people saying, Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon. Within two years, I will bring back to this place all the vessels of the Lord’s house which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place and carried to Babylon. I will also bring back to this place Jeconiah, the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and all the exiles from Judah who went to Babylon declares the Lord, for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon. Then the prophet Jeremiah spoke to Hannah Nyah, the prophet in the presence of the priests and all the people who were standing in the house of the Lord. And the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen. May the Lord do so. May the Lord make the words that you have prophesied, come true, and bring back to this place from Babylon, the vessels of the house of the Lord and all the exiles. Yet here now this word that I speak in your hearing, and in the hearing of all the people, the prophets who preceded you and me from ancient times prophesied war, famine, and pestilence, against many countries in great kingdoms. As for the prophet who prophesized peace, when the word of that prophet comes to pass, then it will be known that the Lord has truly sent the Prophet. Then the Prophet had an idea took the yoke bars from the neck of Jeremiah the prophet and broke them. And Han and I spoke in the presence of all the people saying, Thus says the Lord, even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon from the neck of all the nations within two years. But Jeremiah the prophet went his way. Some time after the Prophet Han and I had broken the yoke bars from off the neck of Jeremiah the prophet, the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, go tell hen Anya, Thus says the Lord, you have broken wooden bars, but you have made in their place bars of iron. For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, I have put upon the neck of all these nations and iron yoke to serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and they shall serve him, For I have given to him even the beasts of the field. And Jeremiah, the prophet said to the Prophet Han, Anya, listen, Hannah, nyah, the Lord has not sent you and you have made this people trust in a lie. Therefore thus says the Lord, behold, I will remove you from the face of the earth. This year you shall die because you have uttered rebellion against the Lord. In that same year, in the seventh month, the prophet Hannah nya died.

Jeremiah chapter 29. These are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the surviving elders of the exiles and to the priests, the prophets and all the people who Nebuchadnezzar had taken into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. This was after King Jeconiah and the Queen Mother, the Unix, the officials of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen and the metal workers had departed from Jerusalem. The letter was sent by the hand of Elysa, the son of shaven, and gamma Raya, the son of Hilkiah, whom Zedekiah king of Judah, sent to Babylon to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon. It said, Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles who might have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon, build houses and live in them, plant gardens and eat their produce, take wives and have sons and daughters. Take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage that they may bear sons and daughters, multiply their and do not decrease, but seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf for in its welfare, you will find your welfare. For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, do not let your profits and your diviners who are among you, deceive you, and do not listen to the dreams that they dream, for it is a lie that they are prophesying to you in my name, I did not send them declares the Lord. For thus says the Lord, when 70 years are completed for Babylon, I will visit you and I will fulfill to you my promise and bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope, then you will call upon me and come and pray to Me, and I will hear you, you will seek Me and find Me when you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile. Because you have said, The Lord has raised up Prophets for us and Babylon. Thus says the Lord concerning the King who sits on the throne of David, and concerning all the people who dwell in this city, your kinsmen who did not go out with you into exile. Thus says the Lord of hosts, Behold, I am sending on them sword, famine and pestilence, and I will make them like vile figs that are so rotten, they cannot be eaten. I will pursue them with sword, famine and pestilence and will make to them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth to be a curse, a terror, a hissing and to reproach among all the nations where I’ve driven them, because they did not pay attention to my words, declares the Lord, that I persistently sent to you by my servants the prophets but you would not listen declares the Lord. Here the word of the Lord, all you exiles who might set away from Jerusalem to Babylon, Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning Ahab, the son of Kalia and Zedekiah, the son of May a Sia, who are prophesying a lie to you in My name, Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and he shall strike them down before your eyes. Because of them, this curse shall be used by all the exiles from Judah in Babylon, the Lord make you like Zedekiah and Ahab, whom the king of Babylon roasted in the fire, because they have done an outrageous thing in Israel. They have committed adultery with their neighbor’s wives, and they have spoken in my name lying words that I did not command them. I am the one who knows, and I am witness declares the Lord, to Shemaiah of Nehalem, you shall say, Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, you have sent letters in your name to all the people who are in Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the seventh of May a sea of the priest and to all the priests, saying, The Lord has made you priest instead of Jehoiada the priest to have charge in the house of the Lord over every madman who prophesies to put him in the stalks and neck irons. Now why have you not rebuked Jeremiah of Anna Thoth who was prophesying to you? For He has sent to us in Babylon saying, your exile will be long, build houses and live in them and plant gardens and eat their produce. Zephaniah, the priest read this letter in the hearing of Jeremiah the prophet. Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah, sent to all the exiles, saying, Thus says the Lord concerning Shemaiah of Nehalem, because Jamia had prophesied to you when I did not send him and his maid you trust in a lie. Therefore thus says the Lord, behold, I will punish Shemaiah of Nehalem and his descendants, he shall not have anyone living among this people, and he shall not see the good that I will do to my people, declares the Lord, for He has spoken rebellion against the Lord.

Jeremiah, chapter 30. The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, write in a book all the words that I’ve spoken to you, for behold, days are coming, declare the Lord, when I will restore the fortunes of my people, Israel, and Judah, says the Lord, and I will bring them back to the land that I gave their fathers and they shall take possession of it. These are the words that the Lord spoke concerning Israel and Judah. Thus says the Lord, we have heard a cry of panic of terror and no peace. Ask now in C, can a man bear a child? Why then do I see every man with his hands on his stomach like a woman in labor? Why has every face turned pale? Alas, that day is so great, there is none like it. It is a time of distress for Jacob, yet he shall be saved out of it. And it shall come to pass in that day, declares the LORD of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and I will burst your bonds and foreigners shall no more make a servant of him, but they shall serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them. Then fear not, oh Jacob, my servant declares the Lord, nor be dismayed, oh Israel, for behold, I will save you from far away and your offspring from the land of their captivity, Jacob shall return and have quiet and ease and none shall make him afraid. For I am with you to save you, declares the Lord. I will make a full end of all the nation’s among whom I scattered you, but a view I will not make a full end. I will discipline you and just measure and I will by no means leave you unpunished. For thus says the Lord, your hurt is incurable and your wound is grievous. There is none to uphold your cause, no medicine for your wound, no healing for you. All your lovers have forgotten you. They care nothing for you, for I have dealt you the blow of an enemy, the punishment of a merciless foe, because your guilt is great, because your sins are flagrant. Why do you cry out over your hurt? Your pain is incurable, because your guilt is great, because your sins are flagrant. I have done these things to you. Therefore all who devour you shall be devoured and all your foes every one of them shall go into captivity. Those who plunder you shall be plundered, and all who prey on you I will make a pray, for I will restore health to you and your wounds I will heal declares the Lord, because they have called you an outcast. It is Zion for whom no one cares. Thus says the Lord. Behold, I will restore the fortunes of the tents of Jacob and have compassion on his dwellings. The city shall be rebuilt on its mound, and the palace shall stand where it used to be. Out of them shall come songs of Thanksgiving in the voices of those who celebrate I will multiply them and they shall not be few. I will make them honored and they shall not be small. Their children shall be as they were of old, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all who oppressed them. Their prints shall be one of themselves, their ruler shall come out from their midst, I will make him draw near and he shall approach me, for who would dare of himself to approach me declares the Lord, and you shall be my people and I will be your God. Behold, the storm of the Lord. Wrath has gone forth of whirling Tempest, it will burst upon the head of the wicked, the fierce anger of the Lord will not turn back until he is executed and accomplished the intentions of his mind. In the latter days, you will understand this.
Steve Webb 15:48
Jeremiah chapter 31. At that time, declares the Lord, I will be the God of all the clans of Israel, and they shall be my people. Thus says the Lord, the people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness, when Israel sought for rest, the Lord appeared to him from far away, I have loved you with an everlasting love. Therefore, I have continued my faithfulness to you. Again, I will build you and you shall be built overnight in Israel. Again, you shall adorn yourself with tambourines and shall go forth and the dance of the Merrymakers. Again you shall plant vineyards on the mountains of Samaria, the planter shall plant and shall enjoy the fruit, for there shall be a day when watchman will call in the hill country of Ephrem a rise and let us go up to Zion, to the Lord our God. For thus says the Lord, sing aloud with gladness for Jacob, and re shouts for the chief of the nation’s proclaim, give praise and say, oh, Lord, save your people, the remnant of Israel. Behold, I will bring them from the north country and gather them from the farthest parts of the earth. Among them the blind and the lame, the pregnant woman and she who is in labor together, a great company, they shall return there with weeping they shall come and with pleas for mercy, I will lead them back. I will make them walk by Brooks of water in a straight path in which they shall not stumble. For I am a father to Israel, and Ephram is my firstborn. Hear the Word of the Lord donations and declare it in the coastlands far away, say, He who scattered Israel will gather him, and will keep him as a shepherd keeps his flock, For the Lord is ransom to Jacob, and has redeemed him from hands too strong for him. They shall come and sing aloud on the height of Zion, and they shall be radiant over the goodness of the Lord, over the grain, the wine and the oil, and over the young of the flock in their herd, their life shall be like a watered garden, and they shall languish no more, then shall the young women rejoice in the dance and the young men and the old shall be merry, I will turn their morning into joy, I will comfort them and give them gladness for sorrow. I will face the soul of the priests with abundance and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness declares the Lord. Thus says the Lord. A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping, Rachel is weeping for her children. She refuses to be comforted for her children because they are no more. Thus says the Lord. Keep your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for there is a reward for your work declares the Lord, and they shall come back from the land of the enemy. There is hope for your future declares the LORD and your children shall come back to their own country. I have heard Ephram grieving you have disciplined me and I was disciplined, like an untrained calf, bring me back, that I may be restored for you or the Lord my God. For after I had turned away i relented, and after I was instructed, I struck my thigh. I was ashamed and I was confounded because I bore the disgrace of my youth. Is Ephram, my dear son, is he my darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I do remember him still, Therefore my heart yearns for him, I will surely have mercy on him declares the Lord. Set up road markers for yourself, make yourself guideposts Consider well the highway the road by which you went return Oh virgin Israel returned to these your cities. How long will you waver Oh faithless daughter, for the Lord has created a new thing on the earth. A woman in circles a man thus says the Lord of hosts the God of Israel. What’s more, they show us these words in the land of Judah and in its cities when I restore their fortunes The Lord bless you Oh habitation of righteousness, Oh, holy hill, and Judah and all its city shall dwell there together, and the farmers and those who wander with their flocks, for I will satisfy the weary soul and every languishing soul I will replenish. At this I awoke and looked in my sleep was pleasant to me. Behold, the days are coming declares the Lord, when I will show the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seat of man and the seat of beast. And it shall come to pass that as I’ve watched over them to pluck up and break down to overthrow, destroy and bring harm, so I will watch over them to build and to plant declares the Lord. In those days they shall no longer say The fathers have eaten sour grapes and the children’s teeth are set on edge, but everyone shall die for his own iniquity. Each man who eats sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge. Behold, the days are coming declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel in the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt. My covenant that they broke, though I was their husband declares the Lord, for this as the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days declares the Lord, I will put my law within them that I will write it on their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. And no longer shall each one teach his neighbor and teach his brothers saying, know the Lord, for they shall all know me from the least of them to the greatest declares the Lord, for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more. Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for light by day, and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar, the Lord of hosts is his name. If this fixed order departs from before me declares the Lord, then shall the offspring of Israel cease from being a nation before me forever. Thus says the Lord, if the heavens above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth below can be explored, then I will cast off all the offspring of Israel for all that they have done declares the Lord. Behold, the days are coming declares the Lord, when the city shall be rebuilt for the Lord from the tower of Han Enel to the corner gate, and the measuring line shall go out farther straight to the Hill Gharib, and shall then turn to Goa, the whole valley of the dead body in the ashes, and all the fields as far as the brook Kidron to the corner of the horse gate toward the east shall be sacred to the Lord. It shall not be plucked up or overthrown anymore forever.

Beloved, in chapter 29, today, God told Jeremiah to send a letter to those people who had been taken into captivity by Nebuchadnezzar into Babylon. In essence, God told the people to settle in because they were going to be there for a while, 70 years to be exact. He told them to go ahead and build homes, plant gardens, have families get comfortable, and pray that their new hometown would do well, because they’ll do well when it does. This was a letter of reassurance. God didn’t want his people to be discouraged or without hope. They were in sort of a timeout because of their sins, but he was not abandoning them. And in verse 11, he said, For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil to give you a future and a hope, then you will call upon me and come and pray to Me and I will hear you. Beloved, I’ve recently heard some people say that this verse only applied to those people at the time God gave this message to Jeremiah, they say it doesn’t apply to us today. Well, I could not disagree more. This message does apply to all who put their faith in God through Jesus Christ. How do I know this? Well, because there are many places in the Bible that we’re told not to be afraid that we’re told to be encouraged in just as one example, take a listen to the words Jesus spoke in John 14 verses one through three. Jesus said, Don’t be worried! Have faith in God and have faith in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house. I wouldn’t tell you this, unless it was true. I am going there to prepare a place for each of you. After I have done this, I will come back and take you with me. Then we will be together.” Beloved, what a beautiful promise. I’m looking forward to that day. But until that day comes I’m settled in here for the long haul, but my heart is full of hope. Well, what are your thoughts?
