Summary

Just as we have a responsibility to be happy, we as believers have a responsibility to worship and praise God. Even when you don’t feel like giving worship and praise to God, do it anyway. And when you do, I can almost guarantee that you will begin to feel God’s blessings, and you will actually feel like praising and worshipping. It’s happened this way for me many, many times.

This is the Lifespring! One Year Bible coming to you from Riverside, California, podcasting since 2004. My name is Steve Webb. I’m your OG Godcaster. If this is your first time here, welcome. And if you’ve been here a while show the new folks around. Okay, today is Psalms Wednesday And our reading will be chapters 96 through 98. We’ll also continue our essential series And we’ll have a time of praise reports And prayer requests. If you’d like to contact me with a comment or question or if you’d like to submit a prayer request or praise report for next Sunday show. I’ll have that info at the end of today’s show. Before we get started, let’s have a word of prayer. Our Heavenly Father, we thank you for our time together today And I pray that You would bless us as we study your word. I pray this in Jesus name. Amen. Okay, let’s get started.

Steve Webb 0:57
Psalm 96 has no title And no author is mentioned either. However, in First Chronicles 16, when the Ark of the Covenant was brought to Jerusalem, David sang a song of praise to the Lord. This psalm echoes much of that song, giving an indication that this might be a Psalm of David, of Psalm 96. James Montgomery Boice wrote, the meaning of the Hebrew word for worship is to prostrate oneself not to praise God for His attributes, which is what the English word worship means. But here we must note that although the meaning of the Hebrew word differs from the English word, the Hebrew understanding of worship, nevertheless also involves giving God praise for his attributes. This is what is being said here. Here, the nations of the world are told to give God glory. Beloved, as we read this psalm, notice that at first it speaks to God’s people. Then it speaks to the nations. And it concludes by speaking to all of creation.

Steve Webb 2:00
Psalms chapter 96. Sing a new song to the Lord. Let the whole earth sing to the Lord. Sing to the Lord, praise his name. Each day proclaim the good news that he saves, publish his glorious deeds among the nations tell everyone about the amazing things he does. Great as the Lord he is most worthy of praise. He has to be feared above all gods. The gods of other nations are mere idols, but the Lord made the heavens, honor And majesty surround him. strength And beauty fill his sanctuary, oh nations of the world, recognize the Lord. Recognize that the Lord is glorious And strong. Give to the Lord the glory He deserves. Bring your offering And come into His courts. Worship the Lord in all His holy splendor. Let all the earth tremble before him. Tell all the nations the Lord drains. The world stands firm And cannot be shaken. He will judge all peoples fairly. Let the heavens be glad in the earth rejoice. Let the sea And everything in it Shout His praise. Let the fields And their crops burst out with joy. Let the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord for He is coming. He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the earth with justice And the nation’s with his truth.

Steve Webb 3:26
Psalm 97 also has no title nor is an author cited. Alexander McClaren wrote of this psalm, the Solomos mind is saturated with old sayings which he finds flashed up into new meaning by recent experiences. He is not original And does not try to be so but he has drunk in the spirit of his predecessors And words which to others were antiquated, in cold Blaze with light for him And see made for his lips. And James Montgomery Boice added Psalms 96 through 98. Each Hale God’s coming as the world’s king. But Psalm 96 And Psalm 98 soar with the light at what is in store for the world when God returns while in Psalm 97, the frightening awesome side of God’s Kingdom the rule is emphasized.

Steve Webb 4:18
Psalms Chapter 97 The Lord reigns Let the earth rejoice. Let the many islands be glad. clouds And thick darkness surrounds him. Righteousness And justice are the foundation of his throne. Fire goes before him And burns up his adversaries round about his lightnings lit up the world the earth saw And trembled. The mountains melted like wax at the presence of the Lord at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare his righteousness And all the peoples have seen his glory. Let all those be ashamed who serve graven images, who boast themselves of idols, worship Him All you God’s, Zion heard this And was glad. And the daughters of Judah have rejoiced because of your judgments, oh Lord, for You are the Lord Most High over all the earth. You are Exalted far above all gods hate evil you who love the Lord who preserves the soles of his godly ones, he delivers them from the hand of the wicked. Light is sown like seed for the righteous And gladness for the upright in heart. Be glad in the Lord you righteous ones, And give Thanks to his holy name.

Steve Webb 5:34
Unlike the last few chapters, Psalm 98 does have a title. The title is a psalm, making it unique in that no other Psalm has this simple title. Thomas Chalmers, the 18th And 19th century Scottish theologian wrote of Psalm 98, that it was a noble spirit stirring Psalm.

Steve Webb 5:56
Psalms chapter 98. Both Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done wonderful things, his right hand And his holy arm have gained the victory for him. The Lord has made known his salvation, He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his loving kindness And his faithfulness to the house of Israel, all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. shout joyfully to the Lord all the earth, break forth And sing for joy And sing praises. Sing praises to the Lord with a liar, with the liar in the sound of melody, with trumpets And the sound of the horn shout joyfully before the King, the Lord, let the sea roar And all it contains the world And those who dwell in it. Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy before the Lord, for He is coming to judge the earth, He will judge the world with righteousness And the peoples with equity.

Steve Webb 6:59
Beloved, for the most part, I think you’d agree with me when I say that these chapters were psalms of worship And celebration. Do you know Dennis Prager, I love the guy. He’s a Jew. And of course, I disagree with him on that point. But he is right on so many other things. I’ve prayed many times for Dennis that he would meet Yeshua And see that he is the Messiah that the Jews have been looking for. Dennis has been on the radio since 1982 or so. And it shows been syndicated to hundreds of radio stations for decades. And he’s had a syndicated newspaper column for even longer than that. I think. He’s written several books, one of which is called happiness is a serious problem. On his daily radio show, every week, he devotes an hour to discussing happiness, And he calls it the happiness our Dennis believes that it’s our responsibility, especially to the people around us to be Happy. And he says that you can become Happy by acting Happy. Of course, I’m greatly oversimplifying what Dennis says about the subject, but you get the essence. well, just as we have a responsibility to be Happy, we as believers have a responsibility to worship And praise God, even when you don’t feel like giving worship And praise to God, do it anyway. And guess what? When you do, I can almost guarantee that you’ll begin to feel God’s blessings. And you’ll actually feel like praising And worshiping. It’s happened like this for me many, many times over the years. The songs we read today can be used as a template, or even a verbatim script to get you started. David And the other writers of the psalms are so good at pouring out their hearts in song both the broken heart And the soaring heart. And when you’re feeling like you just can’t bring yourself to rejoice in the Lord, I hope you’ll remember to turn to some of the psalms for inspiration. After all, that’s why God included the Psalms in Scripture. Don’t you just love the Psalms? If you have a comment or a question, contact information. Is that the end of today’s show? Tomorrow will be poetry Thursday, And we’ll read Proverbs 17 And 18.

This is number 11. In our series on the essentials of the faith. Today we’re going to continue talking about what we believe about Jesus, we’ll talk about the fact that Jesus rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which he lived in died. So why is this important? well, because if it wasn’t the same body, then by definition, Jesus was not in fact, resurrected. If it was a new body than the old one would still be dead And buried. The bodily resurrection of Jesus is the most important event in all of human history, or all of history. It’s the proof that Jesus is who he said he is. Also, it proves the accuracy of the scriptures that prophesied his coming And resurrection. And it showed that Jesus’s own statements that he would be raised on the third day, we’re all so true. And the Apostle Paul said in First Corinthians 15, that if Christ’s body was not resurrected, He was not our Savior, we would not have salvation, we would have no hope of eternal life. And in fact, our faith would be useless. well, thankfully, there is a tremendous amount of clear evidence that Jesus was, in fact, resurrected. We don’t have time on the show to talk about all the evidence, but I’ve created a link that will take you to some articles at cross examined.org, that talk about much of the evidence, just go to Lifespringmedia.com slash evidence, And that’ll take you directly to those articles at cross examined.org. But very quickly, here are a few things to think about. There were literally hundreds of eyewitnesses who saw Jesus alive And well after His crucifixion And resurrection. And many of those people were persecuted, tortured, And martyred for their testimony. Now, if it wasn’t true, if they were lying, they could have easily recanted to save themselves, but they didn’t also look at the change in the apostles. Just after Jesus crucifixion, they hid in fear of their lives. But immediately after they saw the resurrected Jesus, they boldly proclaimed what they had seen, even as they were increasingly persecuted. Why the change, because they saw Jesus And knew that he truly is God, when they saw him resurrected. This only scratches the surface go to Lifespringmedia.com slash evidence for a whole lot more. Yes, Jesus rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which he lived in died. Next Wednesday, in our series on the essentials of the faith, Lord willing, we’ll talk about the fact that he ascended bodily into heaven. And he sat down at the right hand of God, the Father, where he, the only mediator between God And man continually makes intercession for his own, for us, for you for me, I welcome your comments And questions, emails at the end of the show.

Steve Webb 13:01
Praises and prayer requests. I got this email from Jason this past Monday afternoon. Remember, we prayed for his wife who was going in for surgery. He says, everything went well. And exactly as planned. As he was writing this, he said, she just went into recovery. And so it’ll be about another hour before I can go back. I just wanted to get you on the update list right after her mom, sister And a friend from church who have all been praying for her today as well. So that’s pretty good family. We were number four on the list. I’d say that’s just fine. Praise the Lord. Jason. Thanks for the update. And we’ll continue to pray for a perfect recovery. And tell me Jason, how’s it going at home taking care of your daughters at all? Now, I have not heard from Scott on his dad’s heart procedure yet. He didn’t say what day of the week that would take place. So we’re just gonna keep praying. As a side note, before we continue here, Scott emailed me about asking about what changes I’ve made in my diet to become much healthier since my heart procedures. And again, this show is not about diet And health. But if you’re interested, send me an email. I’ll get back to you. Now a prayer request. The Lovely Lady LeeAnn has a cousin named Candi, who’s a little bit older than LeeAnn, if I’m not mistaken. And Candi is in the hospital on a ventilator with blood clots in her legs in her lungs. I think it was Sunday, she went in And might have been Monday, but at that point, they didn’t have much hope that she would recover. But by the time you hear this, it’s possible that she’ll be off of the ventilator. They’re talking about it today. I’m recording this on Wednesday. She’s done much better than the doctors thought she would. She has lupus And fibromyalgia And I did some research And lupus can cause blood clots. But we heard from Candi’s son today that they think at this point that these blood clots might be from an airplane trip she took I guess a couple of weeks ago, she was on an airplane for probably three or four hours And you know, they always tell you when you’re on a plane for a while you should get up And move around so that you don’t get blood clots. So maybe That’s what it is. As far as I know, there are not any other factors that might have caused these. So we need to pray for Candi. So let’s do that now. Our heavenly Father, Lord, we worship you, you are above all, you are worthy, most worthy of praise. You are the creator of all things. And without you nothing was created. You are a rock or a healer or a provider of salvation or fortress or shield, And you are the one to whom we run. We thank you for calling us And for giving us the faith to believe in you. We ask now for your blessings. Father, we thank you today for the good report from Jason that his wife surgery went well. And now we ask again that her recovery would be quick And as easy as possible. Help Jason as he cares for their daughters And the other household duties while she recovers. And once again, we pray for the heart procedure that Scott’s dad is scheduled for this week. May it be completely successful Lord, And if there are any fears, I pray that you would comfort And strengthen him as he leans on you. And now Lord, we pray for Candi. Thank you for being there for her as she’s already done better than expected, And we pray that she’ll come off the ventilator today, And that you would continue her healing. I thank You, Lord, for the Lifespring family And I pray that were there our needs you would minister to them And your perfect loving way. We are in your hands And we’re so thankful that You love us And if promised to provide for us as we seek you bless the Lifespring family I pray Lord, in Jesus name, amen.
