Podcast Introduction
Today is Epistles Sunday, and we’ll read 2 Timothy 1-2, and we’ll have a time of Praise reports and Prayer Requests. I’m calling this episode “Stand Strong.”

Summary
As I reflect on 2 Timothy 1 and 2, Paul’s words resonate deeply with me. Despite his uncertain future in prison, he urges Timothy to stand unashamedly for the Gospel and to hold onto sound teachings. I’m reminded that we may face a choice between societal acceptance and our faith in Jesus. Paul’s message remains relevant: Stand strong in faith, regardless of the cost.

Okay, let’s get started.

Second Timothy, chapter one. Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by God’s will for the promise of life in Christ Jesus. Timothy, My dearly loved son, Grace, mercy And peace from God the Father in Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank God whom I serve with a clear conscience as my ancestors did. When I constantly remember you in my prayers night And day, remembering your tears, I longed to see you so that I may be filled with joy clearly recalling your sincere faith that first lived in your grandmother, Lois van And your mother Eunice, And that I am convinced as in you all, so therefore I remind you to keep a blaze the gift of God that is in you through the laying on of my hands, For God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness but one of power, love And sound judgment. So don’t be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord or have me his prisoner. Instead, share in suffering for the gospel relying on the power of God. He has saved us And called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose in grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began. This has now been made evident through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has abolished death, And has brought life And immortality to light through the gospel. For this gospel, I was appointed to herald apostle And teacher And that is why I suffer these things. But I am not ashamed, because I know the one I have believed in And am persuaded that He is able to guard what has been entrusted to me until that day, hold on to the pattern of sound teaching that you have heard from me in the faith And love that are in Christ Jesus, guard through the Holy Spirit who lives in us that good thing entrusted you this you know, all those in Asia have turned away from me, including five journalists And her MA Ginny’s May the Lord grant mercy to the household of honest difference because he often refreshed me And was not ashamed of my chains. On the contrary, when he was in Rome, he diligently searched for me And found me. May the Lord grant that he obtained mercy from him on that day, And you know very well how much he ministered at Ephesus.

Second Timothy, chapter two, you there for my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in the concerns of civilian life, he seeks to please the recruiter. Also, if anyone competes as an athlete, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. The hard working farmer ought to be the first to get a share of the crops. Consider what I say, For the Lord will give you understanding And everything. Keep your attention on Jesus Christ as risen from the dead And descended from David. This is according to my gospel. I suffer for it to the point of being bound like a criminal, but God’s message is not bound. That is why I endure all things for the elect, so that they may also obtain salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. This saying is trustworthy. For if we have died with Him, we will also live with Him. If we endure we will also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He will also deny us if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself remind them of these things, charging them before God not to fight about words. This is in no way profitable, And leads to the ruin of the hearers. Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who doesn’t need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth, but avoid irreverent empty speech for this will produce an even greater measure of godlessness And their word. It will spread like gangrene, Hymenaeus, And Philetus are among them. They have deviated from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already taken place And are overturning the faith of some. Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm having this inscription. The Lord knows those who are His And everyone who named the name of the Lord must turn away from unrighteousness. Now in a large house, there are not only gold And silver bowls, but also those of wood And clay, some for honorable use some for dishonorable, so if anyone purifies himself from anything dishonorable, he will be a special instrument set apart, useful to the master, prepared for every good work. Flee from youthful passions And pursue righteousness, faith, love And peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. But reject foolish And ignorant disputes knowing that they breed quarrels. The Lord’s slave must not quarrel, but must be gentle to everyone able to teach And patient instructing his opponents with gentleness. Perhaps God will grant them repentance, leading them to the knowledge of the truth, then they may come to their senses And escape the devil’s trap, having been captured by him to do his well.

Beloved, given yesterday’s reading And my comments, it’s somewhat amusing that in today’s reading, Paul is writing from prison. You know why he’s in prison, right? Because he wouldn’t stop preaching the gospel. Yes, those in power were making their attempt at canceling him. And he can’t argue with success, right. Once they threw him into prison, Paul was never heard from again, they totally silenced him. Except here we are about 2000 years later discussing him And the words that the Lord gave him to write so so much for being canceled. well, let’s get on to the comments on today’s reading. Remember that Paul considered Timothy to be his son in the faith. It was Paul that brought the Gospel to Timothy And introduced him to Jesus. And now as Paul is in prison And unsure of his future, he has some final words of advice. Since he is in prison, because of his faith, foremost in his mind is to encourage Timothy to be unashamed of the Lord. Don’t be afraid to stand up And defend the gospel. It is, after all, the only truth that can set men free, the only truth that can reconcile sinful man with a holy God. Beloved, we’re very quickly coming to the day when we’ll have to decide between standing for Jesus And being accepted by society. It’s already happening in some areas of the world. We heard yesterday about the 16 year old young man who was arrested for distributing Bibles. So things seem to be moving very quickly. Will you stand with Paul who said but I am not ashamed because I know the one I have believed in And am persuaded that He is able to guard what has been entrusted to me. Remember, Paul’s words, hold on to the pattern of sound teaching that you have heard from me in the faith And love that are in Christ Jesus, guard through the Holy Spirit who lives in us that good thing entrusted to you. Paul had many good And encouraging words for Timothy that are applicable today. It would actually be a good idea to commit this little four chapter book to memory. What was Paul’s bottom line about this stand strong in the faith, no matter the cost? If you’d like to comment or ask a question, I’ll have the contact information at the end of today’s show. Tomorrow will be the law Monday And we’ll read Numbers nine through 12.

praises And prayer requests. well yesterday maybe the day before I told you that I had a very exciting praise report to share with you today. well, here it is. Kathy was at City of Hope last Wednesday to have a PET scan because her doc wanted to see how her cancer is responding to the new cancer drug he’s been giving her. She’s been on it for several months. And so I guess they figured it’s been long enough to be able to tell if it’s working. So after the test, it takes some time before the results come in. So Kathy And her daughter waited in a waiting room. Dell stayed at home, by the way, because these long days are pretty hard on him. Anyway, pretty soon her oncologist walks in with several other people in the department, people that have been her nurse or drawn blood or what have you, some of them for several years. And the oncologist by the way, has even delayed his retirement because he didn’t want to desert Kathy. So when Kathy saw all these people gathering around in the waiting room, she thought, Oh, what’s this all about? And then the doctor revealed the test results. And with tears in his eyes, he said, almost all the cancer is gone. And everyone erupted in cheers. Now, the PET scan from 2021 showed cancer in many areas of her body, but the new one shows it in just a very few areas. And the remaining areas are much smaller than they were in 2021. The doc said her bones are like Swiss cheese right now because of the cancer And everything. But he believes that now that the cancer is all but gone, they’ll heal. He said, That’s why she’s been having such pain, especially in her legs, that it’s been the holes in her bones. well, beloved, we And so many others have been praying for Kathy for a long time. And it looks like God has chosen this doctor, this team in this drug to do it, Praise His name. I need to tell you that this oncologist is a Jewish man. And he’s remarked to Kathy many times how unusual it is to have a patient in Kathi’s condition who was always able to keep such a sunny disposition. And Kathy would always say that it was Jesus. She believed that he would heal her. Kathy shared her faith in Christ many times over the years with this man And many other people. And now God is bringing healing to this precious woman. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. Amen. So now we’ll pray that the next test she has shows that she is completely free from the cancer. How’s that? And now here’s another prayer request. Some of you might have listened to the podcast I produced from my former pastor Mel Bennett, it’s called in the word with Mel Bennett. And you can find it here at Lifespringmedia.com. Mel Bennett was my pastor when God called me to do the world’s first Christian podcast. And I asked Mel, if I could use the church’s sound booth to record in since I didn’t have a studio in my home at that point. And his reply was, if God called you to do this, who am I to say no. So Mel Bennett had a very real hand in you’re hearing my voice right now. Mel is well into his 80s now And having many health issues according to his oldest daughter. He’s been in the hospital for the past four days. And he hopes to go home today. But as his daughter said, they’re taking it one day at a time. So let’s pray for Mel And his wife, Joanne And the entire Bennet family. Most of them have all moved back to Virginia, And they’re within easy driving distance to one another. So they’re a close family. Let’s pray for them to our gracious heavenly Father, we worship And we praise you, Lord, because you deserve it. You are the creator, you are the giver of life. You are righteous And you are just, you’re merciful And faithful. You keep your promises And you’ve promised to forgive anyone who will put their faith in your son. You’ve promised eternal life to them. So Father, we thank you for that And for calling us And for giving us the faith to believe. Thank you, Lord, And how we thank you for hearing our prayers for Kathy. Thank you for shrinking the Cantor’s grip on her body to nearly gone. And now we just ask that you would complete the job brings strength back to her bones, Lord into her muscles restore her body. I’m guessing Lord that her recovery process will probably be an ordeal but we ask that you would continue to walk with her And Dell in the coming months. We pray now for Mel Bennett And his family. He’s got lots of health problems And we ask you to be with Mel And Joanne as they go through this time. They both love your Lord so much And I pray that you would minister to them as only you can do And help the doctors to treat what they can And get him back on his feet. I thank you for the Lifespring family. Lord bless each one. Give each of us a thirst to know you better as we seek your face. We pray these things in Jesus name. Amen. Our next time of prayer together here on the show will be Wednesday. So if there’s a praise we should know about or if there’s something you’d like us to pray with you about. Contact information is coming up here in just a minute.
