Leopard Launch

So I went to my local Apple store on the night of the debut of their newest version of OS X. I stood in line with a few hundred other people and was amused by some of them, to say the least. One guy looked like Gandolph (from the Lord of the Rings movies), there was a girl there who looked like Sinead O’Connor, and another fellow there was wearing something that looked like an orange dress.

Also there was at least two other podcasters. One was my good friend from OC Podcasters, Victor Cajiao of the Typical Mac User Podcast.

Interestingly, Victor had come down to video some interviews. Mall security at Victoria Gardens wouldn’t let him do that. So he took his camera back to his car and got his audio recording gear. No go. “You should have cleared it with the mall’s public relations department,” said the beefy-looking security guard.

The other podcaster I met was a Josh Long of the Tech Pulse Podcast. He’s a young fellow, and has something like ten or twelve episodes out. Josh was interviewing someone in line, but using a cell phone to record with, so he didn’t draw the attention that Victor did with his official-looking gear.

So am I happy with Leopard? Mixed reviews. It installed pretty easily, but the OS seems a little buggy for me. Both of my Mac Minis have started a new behavior that I am not at all happy with. They restart spontaneously. For no apparent reason. I’m anxiously awaiting a software update from Apple.

I’ll let you know how that goes.
